Educating students for employment
As anyone who has ever looked for a job can confirm, finding employment can be a full-time job. Our Career Services staff helps students in a variety of ways, giving them an advantage in a highly competitive labor market. Some of our services are listed here:
- Workshops. We offer workshops in resume writing, cover letter composing and interviewing.
- Job leads and postings. We maintain a comprehensive job bank of local job leads. Students looking for part-time work while earning their degrees also use our job information to identify possible workplaces.
- Career fairs. We hold job fairs at our Moorhead campus, inviting local employers to attend, meet our students and collect resumes. We also attend other career fairs in the region, making sure that employers know about our students and the abilities they bring to any organization.
- Networking with employers. We maintain connections with local employers, notifying them when we know of students or graduates who would be especially suitable for their organizations. We visit employers and externship sites so that we can help students research organizations.
- Mock interviews. We arrange for informational interviews and mock interviews so that students can practice their skills. Students are sometimes are hired after these interviews, even when there are no advertised vacancies!
- Career development classes. All students at Minnesota School of Business complete a Career Development class. They write resumes and application letters, practice interviewing techniques and develop career-planning strategies.
