We opened the Moorhead campus of the Minnesota School of Business (MSB) in 2008; it is one of the newest campuses in the Globe Education Network. Although the building is new, the college is the direct descendent of Minnesota School of Business founded in 1877 in downtown Minneapolis. When it opened, the school offered instruction in bookkeeping, shorthand, English and penmanship. Although the college has grown and its programs have expanded, its commitment to career training remains unchanged.
Career college — then and now
Times have changed, and so have the classes offered by career colleges. In the 1940s, for example, MSB offered courses in switchboard operation, stenography, office machines, and salesmanship. Today, students earn college degrees in business, health sciences, legal sciences and information technology. They take classes and complete entire college programs through our online division. The classes and delivery methods may be different, but students still learn on state-of-the art equipment, acquiring the skills they will need for success in their chosen fields.
Employers know our history
Minnesota School of Business develops its career-focused programs with the help of experienced practitioners in related fields. Members of our Program Advisory Committees (PACs) are usually employers themselves and know what students need for success. The input of these professionals, and our reputation for providing students with practical, hands-on training, are two of the reasons that employers value our graduates.
Globe Education Network (GEN)
Today, Minnesota School of Business operates cooperatively with Globe University, sharing curriculum and resources among colleges in Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Other members of GEN include:
- Minnesota School of Cosmetology
- Duluth Business University
- Broadview University
- Institute of Production and Recording
- Transportation Center for Excellence
- Benchmark Learning
These affiliations allow member schools to offer students a small college within a larger institution, allowing them to benefit from both. Students at one GEN college may transfer their credits or take classes at one of the other schools in the network. This gives students maximum flexibility in scheduling.
