Accounting programs at our Moorhead campus
Each of the above programs provide knowledge and skills students need to enter various accounting positions. A full-time student may begin with a diploma that can be earned in 12 months, enter the workforce, and later return to school for an associate or bachelor’s degree. A student may build on any of these credentials to earn a master’s degree in business administration, or, with appropriate experience, a master’s degree in management.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (BS)
A student may be able to complete this four-year degree program in three years of full-time study. And if he or she has been working for a while or has completed college classes elsewhere, the student can apply for credit for work experience or transfer credit.*
Students complete courses in business and accounting fundamentals as well as advanced and specialized courses in accounting. Topics include the folowing:
- Tax
- Audit
- Government and not-for profit accounting
- Fraud examination
- Business analysis
- Cost and managerial accounting
- Management accounting strategies
They also select from electives such as:
- Payroll Accounting
- Accounting Systems
- ACAT Review
- Accounting Capstone
- Audit II
General education courses strengthen students’ communication and analytic skills and provide a foundation for working in an increasingly diverse and complex world. Our bachelor’s program includes preparation for the Minnesota CPA exam. Each state’s Board of Accountancy has different rules regarding the CPA. If your goal is to earn the CPA, you should carefully research rules of the state in which you plan to practice before enrolling in the program.
All graduates of our Bachelor’s in Accounting program are also prepared to take the national ACAT exam offered by the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation. Students are encouraged to apply for our Professional Certification Scholarship to defray exam costs.

The Accounting Diploma program is a perfect solution for a student who wants to complete a college program quickly ― often in just 12 months ― and enter the workforce. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions such as the following:
