Medical Assistant Training

The impact of a medical assistant on health and wellness is hard to overstate. Medical assistants are on the front lines of patient care. They are often the first or last people patients see in clinics and doctors’ offices, and the primary points of contact.

You can train for this rewarding and challenging career at Minnesota School of Business (MSB)-Moorhead. Graduates are eligible for job opportunities in hospital ambulatory care centers, clinics, physician’s offices and medical practices.

Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree

This two-year degree program provides students with instruction in areas such as the following:

  • Hematology
  • Anatomy
  • Patient Care
  • Pharmacology
  • Radiology
  • Medical Office Procedures

Students also take general education courses that strengthen communication skills and prepare them to work with diverse patient populations. They complete clinical experiences that allow them to use their classroom training in real-world medical environments. Students also take a CMA review seminar that prepares them to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant exam as well as a radiology course that that allows them to take the Limited Scope of Practice in Radiology exam offered by ARRT. We encourage students to apply for our Professional Certification Scholarship to defray the cost of these exams.

Many students are able to complete the ‘2-year’  Medical Assistant program in 21 months of full-time study.

Technical diploma

A technical diploma in Medical Assistant provides training in administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures. Students can complete this program in just 15 months and be ready to enter the field and start earning a paycheck. Like students in the AAS program, they complete a CMA Review Seminar and clinical training that provides them with hands-on experience.

Program developed by professionals

Students in our Medical Assistant programs know that they are receiving training in areas valued by professionals in the field. We consult with a Program Advisory Committee (PAC), made up of allied health professionals to ensure that our training provides skills and knowledge needed for success in today’s medical settings. Graduates are able to contribute to organizations from the beginning of their careers. Because students complete clinical practicums, they are very familiar with procedures and techniques used in today's medical organizations.
