Grants
Students at MSB-Moorhead may be eligible to participate in grant programs such as the following:
- Federal Pell Grant program. This gift aid is based on financial need. The award varies depending on income and other sources of financial support.
- MN Grant Program. This gift aid is based on financial need. It is available to undergraduate students with Minnesota residence. The award varies depending on income and other sources of financial support.
- Federal Supplement Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG). This grant is based on financial need and is awarded by MSB-Moorhead. The amount awarded varies depending on income and other sources of financial support.
- Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG). This is available to high school graduates who have participated in a rigorous high school program. They must maintain a full-time credit load and a 3.0 GPA or higher while in college. The awards are made during the first two years of college.
- National Science and Math Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant. This is available to third and fourth year students in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree program.
Each of these grant programs requires students to fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Our representatives can help as you complete these forms.
Loans
Students who do not qualify for government grant programs may be eligible for student loans such as those listed here:
- Federal Stafford Loan/Subsidized and Unsubsidized. This is a long-term, low interest loan based on need. Payment is deferred until six months after the student leaves school or attends less than half-time. Students who are eligible for this loan receive increasing amounts each year they attend school.
- Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). This long-term, low interest loan is for parents of dependent undergraduate students. The amount awarded is up to the amount of demonstrated need as shown on the FAFSA.
- Alternative Loan Programs. These loans are privately funded, usually by local financial institutions. Repayment can be deferred while the student is in school at least half-time. The student can receive amounts equal to tuition, fees and book costs.
- Educational Opportunities Loan program. These loans are for students who have been denied a privately funded alternative loan. They can borrow up to their education costs; there is a maximum amount. Students must make monthly interest payments while they are still in school.
Most students fund their college educations with a combination of scholarships, grants and loans. Our financial aid representatives are available to help as you apply to these programs.
